Translation World Cup: promise fulfilled
Last month I invited you to vote for me in the Translation World Cup, hosted by Proz.com and Matecat.
I then promised to donate a certain amount when I should win the World Cup. I didn’t win, but I became the first from all participating English to Dutch translators. That was nice.
However there are so many people who do not even get the change to show their skills simply because they’re born in a poor country, because they’re ill or because they do not have access to resources they need.
That’s why I in my announcement told to donate € 150 to Stichting Kimon, although I wasn’t the overall winner.
I donated today.
Stichting Kimon
Stichting Kimon is a Dutch charity dedicated to help children world wide. The donated amount is meant for Project Jedidja in Guinea Bissau. Gerda Klaver, a Dutch volunteer, is training children with impairments to give them a better future. Many impaired children in Guineas Bissau are fed to crocodiles because their parents think they are phantoms or demons. Gerda: „By helping them and telling them about God’s Word I will give them a better future in which their can show the value of their invaluable lives. A huge thank you and congratulations on your achievement!”
